Some Light in the Shabby House!

I would have liked a chandelier in the shabby house but discovered they were way too expensive so I set about making my own light fitting. The main wire frame I used was part of an old Christmas decoration. I made the leaves for the roses and twined them around the frame. There are three little china roses on it and the rest are paper rosebuds. The colours go perfectly with the shabby rose picture that Linda made me.

And look at that, it even lights up! I've just used one bulb at the bottom as the room didn't need any more light than that. It looks so good in the dark. Oh, and I've added some beams to the ceiling too, things are moving along!

I have been the lucky recipient of another wonderfully stitched gift from Sandi in Canada. You may remember Sandi made me the petit point slippers. This time she has stitched me the sweetest petit point tea cosy. How perfectly shabby is that, I am a very lucky girl!
Thank you Sandi!

A side table for the lounge

A very long time ago Katie sent me a little 'House of Miniatures' kitset to make a Hepplewhite side table.

I have finally made it and found the perfect spot for it in the lounge. I need to do something to 'country up' those lights!

I think the table needs some little house keys on it. I bought the little jar of roses on a trip to Melbourne.
Sorry about the lack of posts lately. I look after baby Lucy three days a week now and it's very exhausting and doesn't leave me with much spare time.
Thank you for all the blog awards!

A bookshelf for the country lounge

One of the best things about blocking up that extra doorway in the lounge is that now there is room for a bookshelf.

As usual I got out my box of wood bits and this is what I came up with.

I had a LOT of fun making the books. If you click and enlarge the photo you'll be able to have a good look at the titles. A few of them are there for a bit of dollhouse humour!

After all, this hobby is all about having fun!

The cutest mail!

Well, I have certainly been spoiled with the mail this week. Just look at the wonderful surprise that arrived from England yesterday!

These little cuties were sculpted by my friend Jo at Salt and Pepper. Jo is just beginning to build an 'Arthur' dollhouse. She usually makes larger versions of these elves but is trying her hand at mini dollhouse sized ones.

I'm still marvelling over this little guy - only 1 inch tall and so beautifully painted!

Jo also sent me this lovely wallpaper and some siding strips to play with...but for now I'm just too busy staring at that little guy!
Make sure you pop over to Jo's blog. Jo is super-multi-talented and takes the most wonderful photos!
Thank you Jo!

This weeks mail!

Thank you so much for all your congratulations! Our copy of 'Miniaturas' has arrived at last and it is such a beautiful magazine!

Liberty took the magazine into the sunshine (it's been raining for the last two weeks) and had a good 'read', lol! She was far more interested in the work of our friends who were also in the magazine though!
I was lucky enough to receive some more vintage mail from Linda in the last few days. There's even a tiny letter coming out of one envelope and a photograph coming out of another one. Perfectly shabby!
Thank you Linda!

And look at these tiny little petitpoint slippers sent to me by Sandi who lives in Canada and reads my blog.

The detail in these is AMAZING! Sandi says this is her first attempt at making these! How anyone can stitch something so tiny is beyond me! They really are breathtaking and perfect for the shabby house.
Thank you Sandi!

Published in Miniaturas!!

This has to be one of the most amazing things that has happened to me in my life. My dollhouse and miniature garden have been published in the October issue of the Spanish magazine Minaturas.

This pic is the first two pages which open out and...
Ta daaa! My dollhouse is a four page centrefold! LOL!!!
Click on the pics to enlarge them.

My copy of the magazine hasn't arrived here yet but I asked my friend Meli in Spain to send me pics to show me my work in the magazine. And there was even more than I expected, what a wonderful surprise!!
I'm so overwhelmed, who would have thought that little old me sitting here at the bottom of the world having fun with a dollhouse would one day be published!
Many thanks to Madelva from Miniaturas who made this happen.
And for those of you who have been wondering even though my name is very Spanish there is not a drop of Spanish blood in me and I do not speak any Spanish!
