Here's a little something I made for Sabiha's birthday.
The cage is 11cm (4 and a half inches) high.
It wasn't until I finished it that I realised I made EVERYTHING in the cage myself!
Thank you to all the people who have emailed asking about the earthquake that occured here in New Zealand at 4:35 on Saturday morning. I live a long way from where the quake hit and no effects were felt here.
The quake registered 7.1 on the Richter scale and the devastation it caused in Christchurch (NZ's second largest city) is unbelievable you can see pics here.
Many historic buildings have been destroyed.
But the most incredible thing is that no one died, which is really amazing when you see the destruction.
Mercedes
Wow glad you weren't near it. Earthquakes are such a scary thing and the destruction. So sad. Your bird cage is lovely and that is awesome you made everything in it. What a feeling :). Big hugs~ Again I;m so glad to hear you are safe. Kim
ReplyDeleteSabiha is sure to love such a sweet gift. It's beautiful! =)
ReplyDeleteYour bird cage and all its contence is BEAUIFUL!!! What a fabulous gift to be sending off. I adore the little wooden ribbon spools...too cute.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad to see the distruction to peoples homes and the beautiful heritage buildings...roads etc can be renewed, but not these. Thankfully there was no loss of life.
I'm so glad that you and your family are safe. I immediately thought of you when I heard about the earthquake.
ReplyDeleteYour birdcage is so wonderful. Sabiha is going to love it!
Hugs,
Jill
I am a new follower and I write from Italy.
ReplyDeleteYour bird cage is very beautiful!
I see photos of the earthquake and I am sad. In Italy there has recently been a earthquake in Abruzzo and it is very sad.
I am glad to hear you are safe.
Sorry for my English and a warm embrace by Rosella
The birdcage is wonderful and she is very, very happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI saw on the news all about the earthquake and it is good to hear that everybody is alive.
Big hug, Sylvia
First of all thank goodness you are all fine. Buildings are important etc etc etc but none compares to one single life. Secondly: the little cage is sooooo cute. Sab will have her mini and your midi version and I'm sure she is thrilled of it. I'm waiting to see your new project. Hugs Rosanna
ReplyDeleteI echo Rosanna here. I am sad though. Christchurch is such a pretty place but I think the New Zealanders are resilient and it will be back to its glory sooner than we think. I just read in our papers that restoration will cost at least USD2b!
ReplyDeleteThat is a quite a parcel you sent to Sab, Bet this one could not fit through the postbox :). Very pretty :) Merce :). It is so her too ! :)
Seeing the pics it looks impossible everybody is safe and sound... I am shocked!! Lately Nature is annoyed with all of us...
ReplyDeleteYour bird cage is so lovely... I adore the little cushion. Sabiha is a lucky girl!!!
Hugs,
Paloma
Great news that you were not affected by the quake Mercedes, its very sad. Fantastic gift, she will be thrilled to bits with it all! Kate xxx
Liebe Grüße an Dich Mercedes

Gorgeous accessories Mercedes!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you weren't affected by the quake, but yes I've seen some pictures of beautiful old buildings destroyed. Such a shame.

ReplyDeleteThe birdcage is lovely, and glad to hear that you weren't anywhere near the affected areas. It is so sad to see all the destruction caused by the quake.
ReplyDeleteWonderful scene and original idea. You have a price in my blog. Best wishes
ReplyDeleteSabiha is going to love the birdcage...you are so talented. Love everything that is inside of it. How lucky that you weren't near the quake. Thankfully there were no fatalities.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you wrote about the earthquake because I was about to ask you if you are close to it. It is a miracle there haven't been a lot of deaths.
ReplyDeleteYour birdcage is beautiful and the miniatures in it are fantastic, a perfect gift for Sahiba.

I love what you created. Such a wonderfully detailed birdcage - I think Sabiha posted some photos of it. At least it seems like she did because I remember commenting on its loveliness.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are okay - earthquakes are very frightening things!

Hi Mercedes. Glad to hear that you and your family are safe.
ReplyDeleteI love the birdcage, and it makes it even more precious that you've made everything yourself.
It's a lovely gift.
Mercedes, Your birdcage is so wonderful and I am sure Sabiha loves it!!! What a sweet gift!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the pictures of the earthquake. How sad that there was that much destruction to all of the older buildings. I saw my little town where I was living in 1989 lose some of it's older buildings too. Everything can be rebuilt. It is great that there weren't any lives lost!
hi mercedes,
ReplyDeleteso relieved that you were far from any quake damage.
the scene in the little birdcage is remarkable! just amazing!

ReplyDeleteI knew you don't live in or nearby Christchurch, but I immediately thought of your safety and well being when I heard about the earthquake. I am glad no one was killed, but of course it is a tragedy for those affected!!!
Synnøve :)
So many little treasures you have made, Sabiha will love it I am sure. I was shocked to hear about the earthquake in Christchurch, I tend to think of NZ as part of Oz, such close neighbours, although I have not been there yet, one day.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you are all okay!
ReplyDeleteWhat Fabulous minis you make, Mercedes! Such a beautiful gift! I can't believe you put all those things into such a tiny birdcage! I really like the card from New Zealand!
Me alegra saber que no hubo victimas.
ReplyDeleteLa jaula es muy bonita y todo, todo lo que has hecho para poner en esa escena emuy elegante.
