La Maisonnette - A fireplace for La Salon

The Salon was crying out for a fireplace so I researched French fireplaces and
then set about trying to create one with what I had.

As you can see it's made up of bits'n'pieces!
The two wooden sides came off another piece of furniture I already had.
I figure if I have no use for some of the furniture I have lying around
it might as well be turned into something else.

I was going to leave it painted shabby and white or blue...
because I was just too lazy to figure out how to paint it marble.

I hadn't marbled anything for a long time and just couldn't be bothered figuring out how to do it again.

However, I soon realised it HAD to be marble.

Very pleased with the result!
It was actually quite fun marbling it after all.

Last Saturday the weather was very stormy here.
It was a good opportunity to stay inside and work on this room.
Not that anyone would notice most of what I did...I was just making things fit properly!
It's good now that the boring things are sorted.

View from the kitchen to the Salon.
Now I'm working on the kitchen.
It's Autumn here in New Zealand so there's a good chance of another rainy weekend
which means things might get done!

Hope you're all having a great week!

  1. Beautiful! I love seeing your blog pop up in my inbox.

  6. Muy bonita esa chimenea , me encanta como encaja en esa habitación.

  7. Perfect fireplace, it goes so well with the room. And I agree with you it had to be marble.

  8. It is so much fun to make something special from nothing, especially when we get to use up old parts and pieces that we held onto knowing someday they would be just the thing for something! I love the marbling and the fireplace looks perfect in it's place!

  9. The reference to making something with what I had is music to my ears. I enjoy seeing the innovative ideas and creative solutions that our miniature blogger friends develop.
Marbling the fireplace made all the difference!
Spring in the northern hemisphere - trees in full bloom . A lovely time of year.

  11. Hi Mercedes! The fireplace turned out beyond perfect! And your marbling technique clearly is excellent! Beautiful beautiful work! And I love that you are daring to fit so much "grandeur" into this little place! Enjoy your fall weekends making minis... it is such a cozy feeling!

  12. Oh my goodness Mercedes, the fireplace is absolutely fantastic, great idea repurposing bits of unused furniture from your stash. And you're right, it just HAD to be marbled, especially when you did it SO well!!
